A multilayered archaeological site Gomolava is on the left bank of the Sava river, near a village of Hrtkovci in Srem (Vojvodina).
It is a type mound site (tell) settlement where horizons are dated from the late Vinča culture, Eneolithic, early Bronze and Iron ages. The first excavation were conducted in 1904, and then since 1953, when systematic investigations start, to be continued, with interruptions, until the present day.
The first settlement was founded in the Late Neolithic. The dominant horizons are from the Late Iron Age. At the foot of Gomolava, there is a Roman necropolis and a rural villa nearby. From 12th to 15th century there was a village cemetery with a church.
