The Diana camp was built on the Danube bank, on a plateau at the Sipa village (east Serbia). Construction of the oldest earthen-wooden fortification is associated with the coming of the first military formations to the Danube in the early 1st century. The larger stone fortification was built during the reign of emperor Trajan.
During the period of six centuries, the Diana was an important economic centre with a port and docks. Inside the complex, a building with an apse was discovered, military barracks and structures, whereas in the central part there are remains of a principal building with a portico. Outside the ramparts there used to be a shrine and the remains of a martyry, section of a necropolis and of a settlement to the west of the camp have been investigated.
The first test trenching started in 1964 and since then, with some interruptions, have been going on up to the present day. The investigated structures are conserved.
