The mediaeval town of Maglič is located on the right river bank of the Ibar, about 25 km south-west from Kraljevo, on the road to Raška, in central Serbia. It situated on a narrow plateau of a rocky cliff, dominating the whole area.

The fortress was built most probably in 13th century. The fortification ground plan is of an irregular longitudinal multiangular shape with seven massive towers and a donjon. On its rampart tops there used to be walkways. In the inner area of the fortress there are substantial remains of a palace and St. George’s church. Archaeological and conservation works lasted, with breaks, from 1960 to 1987.
