A late Antiquity fortified palace and a settlement Felix Romuliana is near the Gamzigrad spa, 5km away from Zajecar, east Serbia.
The palace was built by the design of the emperor Gaius Valerius Galerius Maximianus at the time of the Tetrarchy (4th century A.D.). The remains of both earlier and later fortification were found, and they were built in some ten years’ interval.
Inside the fortification, on its north end, there is an imperial palace with a temple and a monumental altar, whereas at the south end there are some public buildings: a large temple with two crypts of rectangular ground plan and the baths, a granary (horreum) and a one-nave building with a portico.
Systematic archaeological investigations have been going on since 1953 and the open space structures are continuously under the conservation works.
